中国春节简介英文版

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It is celebrated in the traditional lunar calendar and is considered the reunion festival of the Chinese people.

The festival starts on the first day of the Chinese New Year and lasts for 15 days, concluding with the Lantern Festival. The exact date of the Spring Festival varies from year to year, but it is generally celebrated between January 21 and February 20.

Preparations for the New Year begin well in advance. People clean their houses and streets to sweep away bad luck and make way for incoming good luck. They also decorate their homes with red paper cutouts and couplets with popular themes of "good fortune", "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". Red is considered auspicious in Chinese culture, signifying luck and prosperity. The eve of the Chinese New Year is when people traditionally have their family reunion dinner, known as 'Nian Ye Fan'. This meal is more important than any other meal during the year and is usually held at the home of the elderly family members.

One of the most distinctive customs of the Spring Festival is the giving of red envelopes, known as 'hongbao', usually given by elders to children as a symbol of blessing and good luck. These envelopes usually contain money, symbolizing the transfer of good luck and blessings from elders to the younger generation. The Spring Festival is also a time for honoring ancestors and gods. Many families visit temples to pray for a prosperous year. The festivities include vibrant dragon and lion dances, fireworks, and family gatherings. The celebrations reach a climax on the 15th day of the New Year, with the Lantern Festival, when beautiful lanterns are released into the sky, signifying the letting go of the past and welcoming the future.
