Never Too Old to Learn

Recently, I’ve been feeling a distinct lack of motivation for studying. With the oncoming of final exam, I began to realize that I had been spending far too long in the dormitory watching films or paying games, and far too little time at lessons and my assignments. Feeling perplexed and wanting to redeem my university life, I went to my tutor.

If you havent read for a whole day but still dont feel ashamed for yourself, you have degraded already. My tutor and I talked a lot, but during our conversation, what impressed me most is the power of reading and learning. Granted, reading a good deal is barren of upgrading us superficially, yet it counts in every step of our path through life.

When we are young, still not able to talk fluently or walk steadily, we learn. We read the basic phonetic alphabet of Chinese under the guidance of our family.

Thriving to the age for school, we learn. We start to get a general idea of human, community, society, the world, even the outer space --- all are completed through our own reading or exploring. After setting our feet on university, the hypothetically wonderland, we stop. We seem to be disturbed and distracted by all kinds of club activities, recreational gatherings and college romance; we do enjoy

our university days, but we have unconsciously pushed the wholesome habit of learning, lying to ourselves that what we have learned during the past twenty years are more than sufficient for any demands made upon us.

Counting from the moment we were born till now, we have been absorbing the necessary nutrition and pabulum ceaselessly from both reading and experiencing to guarantee our continual maturing. However, like a tree lacking of nutrition, without learning, we shall wither and stagnate and finally losing the ability of even thinking. Stop learning for a mere instant, others shall have exceeded you ten steps forward. My tutors words still linger in my head.
