简说as „ as „结构 ■崔长平 河南遂平一高（463100） “as„ as„”结构具有多种用法和不同的含义，一般来讲，结构中的第一个as是副词，修饰说明一个原级形容词或副词；第二个as为连词，经常用来引导一个从句或省略的从句。在学习中，我们应当区别对待，分类掌握。现将其主要用法归纳如下： 1）表达原级比较，结构中使用原级形容词或副词，意为“象（与）„„一样”。①用来说明不同的人或事物之间的共同特征。②用来说明同一个人或事物之间的不同特征的相同程度。③用来说明不同的人或事物之间的不同特征的相同程度。④当名词接受many、few、much、little（“少的”）修饰或限制时，也可以置于本结构中。⑤本结构也可以使用：as﹢形容词﹢不定冠词﹢单数名词﹢as„。 Tom was as kind as John (was). She studies as hard as Mary (does). You know as much about that as I do. I haven’t done as much as I should have liked. 我做的不及我原想做的那么多。 This delightful young woman was as gentle as she looked. 这位可爱的年轻女子一如她看上去的那样温柔。 Martin was as impatient as he was stubborn. Martin既无耐心又固执。 He was as sensitive as he was obstinate. 他既敏感又倔强。 She is as clever as her younger sister is beautiful. 她聪明而她妹妹漂亮。 One is as light as the other is heavy. 一个轻然而另一个重。 He was as honest as his brother was kind. 他诚实而他弟弟善良。 He has as many story books as I have. There was as much time and money in the experiment as we had expected. We met with as difficult a problem as (they did) last year. It’s generally believed that teaching is as much an art as it is a science. ■as从句中的主语如果是代词时，在没有谓语或部分谓语的情况下，可以使用宾格形式。 You can’t expect to play tennis as well as me (= as I do) at your age. She doesn’t work as hard as him (= as he does). ■“as„ as„”结构的否定形式可以是：not as „ as 或not so „ as„。 2）表达倍数比较，其构成是：倍数﹢as„ as„结构。 This bridge was three times as wide as that one (was). Waves of red light are about twice as long as waves of blue light (are). The population of Scotland was eight times as large as that of Cornwall. 3）用来加强语气，根据不同的词义，分别译成“多达„„”、“长达„„”、“宽达„„”、“重达„„”、“高达„„”、“深达„„”等，语义比较灵活。 Each stone weighs as much as fifteen tons. 1 The rain is plentiful here, often as much as seventy inches yearly.
