中国传统节日英语手抄报 Traditional Chinese Festivals Introduction As a country with a long history and rich culture, China has a variety of traditional festivals, which have been celebrated for thousands of years. These festivals are not only important for Chinese people to commemorate their ancestors, but also offer a great opportunity for families to get together and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important festival in China. It usually falls in late January or early February on the lunar calendar. During Spring Festival, people decorate their houses with red lanterns, couplets, and paper-cuttings. They also clean their houses to get rid of bad luck from the past year. On New Year’s Eve, families gather together to have a reunion dinner, and then set off fireworks and firecrackers to welcome the New Year. During the following days of the festival, people visit relatives and friends, exchange gifts, and eat traditional food such as dumplings and glutinous rice cake. Lantern Festival Lantern Festival, also known as Yuanxiao Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month. It marks the end of Spring Festival. On Lantern Festival, people hang lanterns in various shapes and colors to decorate the streets, and eat sweet glutinous rice balls called Yuanxiao. Children carry lanterns and walk on the streets admiring the beautiful lanterns. Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Day) Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, is a traditional Chinese festival for people to pay respect to their ancestors, which falls on April 4 or 5. On this day, people go to their ancestors’ graves to sweep the tombs, offer food and flowers, burn incense, and pray for their ancestors’ blessing. It is also a good time to enjoy the spring scenery and have a picnic with family and friends. Dragon Boat Festival Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in a river in protest against the corruption of the Qin Dynasty. To prevent fish from eating his body, people threw rice dumplings called zongzi into the river. On Dragon Boat Festival, people eat zongzi, paddle dragon boats, and hang calamus and mugwort leaves to prevent diseases. Mid-Autumn Festival Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. It is the harvest festival in China, when people enjoy the beauty of the full moon and eat mooncakes, a kind of traditional food with various fillings such as bean paste, lotus seed paste, and egg yolk. On this day, families gather together, sit under the moonlight, and appreciate the roundness and brightness of the moon.
