Volunteering(志愿者)

The volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese people in recent years, especially among young people. Volunteering is of tremendous benefits to both those in need and society Take the Wenchuan Earthquake as an example. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers play an active role in Wenchuan quake-hit areas. And they contribute daily necessaries, offer medical help and psychological help to the disaster-relief work. Besides, volunteering would be beneficial to the volunteers themselves. Getting involved in volunteering, volunteers will be exposed to a new environment, and they can learn how to work well in a team, how to improve their interpersonal skills and organizational skills, all of which are critical for their professional growth. As a college student, I sincerely hope that everyone would join the volunteering work. It is not only good to our society, but also a chance for us to grow and to learn.

Vocational education or college education ? (职业教育)The number of people who take the college entrance examination has been decreasing these years. Some people consider vocational education an advantage to job-hunting, while others argue that a college diploma is more important. ln my opinion, college education is more advisable or most people. First, college education is systematic and students can learn a lot in many aspects. Unlike vocational, which always focuses on just one job skill, college education enables

students

to

develop

different

po-tentials.15lSecond, to obtain a higher degree, such as a master’s degree, one has to go through college education to a bachelor’s degree first. In a society where any job skill may become outdate-ed quickly with the appearance of new technologies, the limitations of vocational education prove even more serious. Only college education can prepare us for future challenges.

Computers in Students’ Dorms(电脑)

On many dorms, it has become a prevalent

phenomenon for one college student to possess a PC or a notebook. Meanwhile, a host of parents or teachers encourage and advocate college students to use computers in their life and study. Taking a look around, we can find a great many students and dorms like this. A number of individuals prefer or favor the phenomenon “One student, One PC”. In their eyes, studying with the help of computers will enhance students’ over-all development and competitiveness, because rich information on the Internet will enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizons. Even so, others hold a different view that using computers may carry some risks. First, buying PC calls for plenty of money; however, the quality of learning is not always

as satisfactory as expected. Then, what worries many teachers is that students’ academic learning may be affected negatively by a variety of computer games. By and large, I am convinced that the advantages derived from the popularity of computers far outweigh the disadvantages. Without this machine, it is impossible for students to have more opportunities to acquire the knowledge beyond their campuses. Therefore, students are advisable to use the PC in a sensible way.

Skipping Classes on College Campus(逃课) In colleges and universities, the phenomenon of students’ skipping classes is not unusual. There are often some students who skip those classes for feeling unwell or other private reasons. Besides, still some students don’t go to class without any reason but for they don’t want to. There are two main reasons for college students’ skipping classes. First, compared with in middle school, students have more freedom in college. It depends more on one student’s consciousness whether he will attend the class. So those students lacking self-discipline begin to skip classes. Second, some teachers’ lectures could not attract students’ interests so that some students would rather skip classes to study what they are interested in. For whatever reasons, skipping classes does bring negative effects on students’ study. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effective measures to reduce this phenomenon. On the one hand, the school and teachers should make students realize the negative effects of skipping classes and enhance their consciousness of attending the class. On the other hand, teachers have to improve their teaching quality to attract students’ interests in the courses. Only in this way can the phenomenon of skipping classes be reduced as soon as possible.

(手机) There is a growing tendency nowadays that children in mounting numbers own mobile phones. Does anyone hold the same attitude towards this phenomenon? Definitely not. Actually, opinions vary from person to person.

Some emphasize the merits of children’s using mobile phones, they hold thatchildren can contact with their parents or friends conveniently especially when they are confronted with difficulties or dangers. Moreover, mobile phones equipped with various interesting games are also a convenient source of recreation and relaxation for children who have been under an enormous pressures from an overload of studies. On the contrary, a majority of people hold that mobile phones are detrimental to children. For one thing, children’s being addicted to mobile phones is nothing but a waste of their precious and limited time, which will definitely interfere with their studies.Additionally, radiation from mobile phone will exert a detrimental impact on children’s body health. From my perspectiveit is not advisable that children should bring mobile phones. It is unbelievable that some students carry mobile phones just for the purpose of killing their precious time instead of keeping in touch with their parents regularly. The supposed helpful tool has become harmful. Accordingly, children should concentrate their time and energy on studiesthose which might become distractions should not be introduced to them.
