A.unless B.since C.although D.when 本题答案为D，考查when作连词的用法。本句中when相当于if，它的意思是“如果”。 when能引导多种从句。这里我们归纳了一下when引导多种从句的用法。 1．when作连接副词，引导名词性从句，意思是“什么时候”。如： I would like to know when they will come back. 我想知道他们什么时候回来。 When they will be back depends much on the weather. 他们什么时候回来很大程度上取决于天气。 The question is when they will be back. 问题是他们什么时候回来。 2．when作关系副词，引导定语从句，其先行词必须是表示时间的名词，在从句中作时间状语。如： Have you set the day when you will move? 你搬迁的日子定了吗? 龙源期刊网 http://www.qikan.com.cn He came at a time when we needed help. Ａ他在我们需要帮忙的时候来了。 这里要注意两点： ①在this is(was)和that is(was)之间常直接跟when.而不用the time。如： That was when she lived there. 那时，她住在那儿。 This was when I really got to know the United States. 这时，我才真正认识了美国。 ②在某些含有“时间”的名词词组之后，由于整个名词词组已经用作连词引导时间，此时状语从句不用when引导。这些词组有the moment，the second，the minute，theinstant，the first time等，常译作“一……就……”。如： The minute I saw him I knew he was my brother. 我一见到他就知道他是我哥哥。 I sent you the news the instant I heard it. 我一听到这个消息就通知你了。 The first time I went to China, I visited Beijing. 我第一次到中国就游览了北京。 3．when作从属连词，引导状语从句。它用于不同的句式结构中而有不同的意义，可分别表示时间、条件、对比、强调等。 ①表示时间，意思是“什么时候”“当……时候”。如： It was raining when we arrived. 我们到的时候正下着雨。 I loved history when I was at high school. 龙源期刊网 http://www.qikan.com.cn 我上中学时很喜欢历史。 ②表示转折、让步或对比，意思是“然而，既然，虽然”。如： The waitress brought me coffee when I asked for tea. 我要的是茶，女服务员却拿了咖啡给我。 They have only three copies when need five. 他们只有三份，而我们要五份。 ③表示条件，意思是“如果，要是”。如： Can you spare five minutes when it's convenient? 如果方便你能抽5分钟时间吗?
