Dear Mary, How it it going? I’m glad/happy/pleased to hear that you are coming to China. As we all know, different countries have different traditions / (customs and rules). Around the world, people have ideas about what good manners are. And everyone likes those who have good manners. So let me tell you something about customs and rules in China now. For example, we usually shake hands with people when we meet them for the first time. But after that we just say hello. We must say Mr and Mrs when we speak to the older people, but we can use first names with our friends. When we visit friends and family, we can bring some flowers or a bottle of wine but remember: we mustn’t give them a clock as a present. We must use both hands to accept a present, and we must wait and open it later. When we have meals, we use chopsticks. And we don’t have to finish the dish/ (eat up). We usually leave a little to show that we have had enough. After the meal, we often drink some tea and eat some fruit and desserts(甜点). When we leave, we must say thanks and goodbye to the host. And we must drive on the left side of the road in China. Do you think these are very strange/ (these are very different from the traditions in your country)? I hope you’ll enjoy your stay in China. I’m looking forward to your coming/ (I can’t wait to see you)! Best wishes!
