The hat reinforcement may include a web portion having a relatively small inclined surface optimized for handling shear forces. The hat reinforcement may include a web portion having a relatively large inclined surface optimized for handling peel force or interface force. The hat reinforcement may include a hat cap having a variable width along the length of the hat reinforcement. The hat reinforcement may further include a transition web portion that transitions from a web portion having a relatively large slope to a web portion having a relatively small slope.
