简单的英语科普小短文 Passage1.The History of Expo The history goes as far back as 1851 when London hosted the very first universal world exhibition. At that time.Great Britain was the world's leading industrial power.and all countries were invited to participate in the exhibition under the overall theme"Industry of all Nations". On I May 1851,Queen Victoria officially declared the first world exhibition open in the recently erected Crystal Palace,which made up a remarkable monument to the event until a devastating fire in 1936. The first world exhibition welcomed 14,000 exhibitors from 25 countries,and with more than six million visitors it turned out to be an overwhelming success.Other world industrial centres lead by Paris wanted to further the idea of a universal meeting place for people and companies.and several exhibitions were held during the years up to World War I.However.they were increasingly marred by fortuitousness and poor organization. As a result,governments interested in the matter were convened in order to come to an agreement about more standardized requirements for the organisation of future world exhibitions.For instance,an agreement on the regulation of international exhibitions was brought about in Paris as late as on 22 November 1928,due to the Great War. Thirty-one countries.signed the document to set out the frequency of world exhibitions and define the rights and obligations of the exhibitors and organisers.At the same time.the organisation BIE was established in order to ensure that future world exhibitions would be held in conformity with， the agreement.Today,both universal world exhibitions and specialised exhibitions with a more restricted theme are being held.
