《雾都孤儿》的英文读后感500

Reading Charles Dickens's novel "Oliver Twist" is like a roller coaster ride. On the one hand, it is really an interesting and

entertaining story full of exciting events and suspenseful moments. On the other hand, there are some very dark and depressing scenes throughout that always come with a strong sense of sadness.

The main character, Oliver Twist, is an orphan who has no family and lives in London's poverty-stricken city. He faces a lot of hardships in his life, starting with being quite mistreated at the workhouse where he grows up. As he goes along his journey, he meets many people who both help him and hurt him, and he slowly starts to realize the kind of world he lives in and how unfair it can be. It is not just his story alone though, as he also becomes part of a group of people in the same situation as him and experiences their struggles.

What I found to be especially important about this book is how Dickens works to expose the real problems of poverty in society. He does not just make the villains obvious but shows how the economic system of Victorian England led to a high level of destitution and suffering among the lower classes. He also points out how this kind of inequality can create hatred and crime in certain areas, which is unfortunately still the case today.

Overall, Oliver Twist is a creative, unique, and important novel about the difficulties of growing up in a difficult world. The characters are deep and complex, and Dickens manages to draw very real and detailed portraits of them. Through this book, I have

gained a much greater understanding of the social issues of the 19th century, and I think it is a must-read for everyone.
