In recent years，more and more people choose to live by themselves，why? Is it positive or negative ? In society today, a large number of people especially those in big cities prefer to live independently rather than live with friends and family member. This essay will look at the possible reasons and discuss whether this is s positive trend. One reason is related to freedom. Most people today have a fast life pace, and sharing accommodation with others usually can turn out to be troubling. Living alone enables a person to have the liberty to live by his own rules. For example, he can get up in the middle of the night to watch movies without worrying about how much noise he is making or just turn off the TV and enjoy the silence. He can spend an hour blowing bubbles in the bathtub and seeing how long he is able to hold breath. Also, he can be in a bad mood and not have to make an excuse to anyone to explain why he is sad. Another explanation is associated with migration. Better health, social services, cultural events, and education are more accessible in big cities. Therefore, an enormous number of young people have moved from their hometown to big cities. As there is no friend and family members nearby, they, in many cases, are left with no option but choose to live independently. I think this trend is negative. The biggest disadvantage to living on your own is a lack of company. There's no one who is consistently there to talk to, share feelings with, or laugh with. There's no one to take care of you when you're sick or injured. There's even no one to send out to get a package. You have higher chance to ignore social and family contact, which creates increased loneliness and bias towards others as untrustworthy. What is worse, there is a possibility that you may end up convincing yourself that you do not need any human interactions. The second drawback is connected with safety. It is dangerous when there is nobody nearby to deliver help a person needs in an emergency. This problem can be especially serious for old people as a sudden disease like heart attack or stroke may end his life. Also, a stormy night can be scary to a girl and every bolt of lightening reminds her to give up the idea of living alone. （Every bolt of lightening serves as a reminder of how terrible living alone can be.） Another possible explanation is that some people build strength in being alone. They need time to recharge themselves at the end of the day, which allows them to have higher energy level to continue with regular work. This is especially true for introverts who are more interested in their own thoughts and feelings than in spending time with others. Those who live by themselves are light on their feet and as there is no one at home waiting for him at home.
