外国语英语The Little Prince ——something about people 1002 王慧 2010110099 When I finished reading this thin book, I found that my memory is too bad, because I forgot a lot of plots of this book. And I also didn’t get the theme exactly. So, now I just try my best to talk something about this book. The writer of this book was French Antoine de Saint-Exupery who has two occupations——writer and polite. He was born on June 29, 1990, in Lyon, France. In the 1920s he helped establish airmail routes overseas. During World WarⅡ,he flew as a military reconnaissance pilot. After the Germans occupied France in 1940, he escaped to the United States. He rejoined the air force in North Africa in 1943. During what was to have been his final reconnaissance mission over the Mediterranean Sea, he died when his plane was shot down on July 31, 1944. His first book was Southern Mail, was about the life and death of an airmail polit. And it was published in French in 1929. Other books include Night Flight (1931), about the first airline pilots, and Wind, Sand, and Stars (1939), in which he describes his feelings during flights over the desert. Next was The Little Prince. And the final volume of reflections, which provides an insight into the author’s views on the meaning of life, is The Wisdom of the Sands (1948). This book was published after the pilot’s death. It seemed he conveyed in his books the solitude and mystic grandeur of the early days of flight. And his books almost described dangerous adventures in the skies. And one of the roles in The Little Prince is a polit. The Little Prince was written in 1943, which in a way is really a children’s book for grown-ups, was written during Saint-Exupery’s stay in the United States. And the introduction says it is a gentle and thoughtful book, which is really true. The “I” in this book is a pilot. And this book told a story between him and the little prince, they met in Sahara desert. The little prince lives on a young small star with two volcanoes and a rose. One day, the rose make him angry, then he left this star and started to travel. He passed through seven various stars, and the last one is earth. On the other six stars, he met six difference persons. In fact, these persons represent six kinds of grow-ups in the society. On the earth, the little prince met the “I”— a polite in the desert, and they gradually became friends. They seek the innocence and move together. On the day that the little prince came to the earth for just one year, he left. Maybe he returned to his own star, maybe he just died. I didn’t understand this ending. But whatever, it is a sad story. Then I want to talk something about the person on the six special stars. The first was a king who loves to command others. It represents the fond of the authority. Everything the little prince did, he always said it with an imperative mood again. From a small sight, this just like some adults in the real world, they always want their children to do something they like, and don’t care about whether their children like it. What they want is to let their children do without reasons. For example, they always force them to attend many extra classes. As far as I am concerned, this behavior does bed affection on children’s development. From a big sight, I remembered the issue that “My father is Li Gang” and the case of Yao Jiaxin. This shows the second officer generation feels superior about the authority. I feel very pity about this phenomenon. And I am dreaming about one day that people are all kind and equal to each other. The second star lives a vanity person. He wants everyone to admire him. And in our world this is a normal phenomenon around all the people, not only the grown-ups. People always compare with others and this just like a yoke locked on our heart, which makes us feel very tired. And I know that it is difficult to extricate ourselves of it, but we should try our best to reduce the effect, and live a simple happy life. The third is a tippler, and I think the conversation is very interesting. “What are you doing here?” The prince asked. “I’m drinking.” The tippler replied. “Why are you drinking?” “So that I may forget.” “Forget what?” “Forget that I’m ashamed.” “Ashamed of what?” “Ashamed of drinking.” This is the entire dialog. The tippler drunk because he wants to forget he is drinking. How ridiculers it is! And the little prince also said,” The grown-ups are certainly very, very odd.” They always worried about something impossible and do something strange. So do I now. And I must to admit that I miss the innocent childhood very much. I miss the life that running on the field, catching fishes and tadpoles in the river. I miss my little friends and the games we playing together······ The fourth is a businessman. He was so much occupied that he did not even raise his head at the little prince’s arrival. He was counting the stars all the time and write the number on a paper, then he thought these stars belongs him, and he thinks this is meaningful. But the little prince thought that this behavior done nothing to these stars, then it is usefulness. And he thought that he watered his flowers everyday, this is just meaningful. And I can’t agree more with the prince. We human became more and more selfish when we grow older. And I think we should get something during we are child back like considering more of others. The fifth is the smallest stars. There was just enough room on it for a street lamp and a lamplighter. And I feel pity about him. Because he just take the order to light the lamp when it is day, and put it out when it is night, whatever the whole day is just one minute. This is these persons who don’t follow their own idea and just to order the command. The sixth is a geographer. He just noted down the explorers in his study. But he didn’t really see these mountains, rivers and so on. This is a theorist not a practice. And it’s no doubt that it is no use to know the world exactly. It is the same to us, and if we want to learn something, practicing is the best way. The seventh is the earth. And he learned many things here from a fox. He knew that his rouse is special among all the flowers, because it is he watered it; it is he put it under the glass globe; it is he sheltered it behind the screen; it is his rose. Then he knew that he has responsibility for his rose. Then, one year later, he fell down on the earth, and I think he just went to his own stars taking care about his flower and volcanoes. He just went to take his responsibility. This is really a thoughtful book. And I think it was written for grown-ups, not the children.
