It lies in the northwest of Beijing， and it is the largest and best imperial1 garden which we can see now in China. The sixth Qing emperor2 Qian Long named it Qingyiyuan. During the Second Opium3 War， it was destroyed by fire. In 1888， Ci Xi spent much money rebuilding it and named it Yiheyuan. 颐和园是北京最古老、最美丽的公园之一，它位于北京市西北部，是北京现存的最大最好的皇家园林。清朝第六代皇帝乾隆曾把它命名为“清漪园”。它在第二次鸦片战争期间被战火烧毁。1888年，慈禧花费巨资重修清漪园，并改名叫“颐和园”。 The Summer Palace， dominated4 mainly by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake， covers an area5 of 2.9 square kilometers， three quarters of which is under water. Longevity Hill is the centre of the garden. On the hill， there is a big palace with many walls， towers， rooms and a great pavilion6. Along the Kunming Lake is the Long Corridor7. It is 728 metres long along the northern shore8. On the lake there is a famous white bridge with 17 spans9. All the buildings are painted with old beautiful Chinese paintings. 颐和园主要由万寿山和昆明湖两部分组成，全园占地2.9平方公里，水面大约占其面积的四分之三。万寿山是全园的中心。山上有一个大宫殿，里面有很多围墙、高塔、房间，还有一个大亭阁。昆明湖的北岸有一道728米长的长廊。湖上有一座著名的白色桥梁，共有17个桥洞。所有的建筑物都有中国古老的绘画装饰。 The Summer Palace was designated10 a World Heritage11 site by UNESCO in 1998.
