糖果屋的故事英文版初中 The Story of the Candy House Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter and his two children, Hansel and Gretel. The family was struggling to find enough food to eat, and the woodcutter's wife, their stepmother, was becoming increasingly frustrated. One gloomy day, as the family was struggling to find something to eat, the stepmother came up with a plan to abandon Hansel and Gretel in the forest. She believed that, by getting rid of the children, they would have more food to survive. The woodcutter was hesitant, but he eventually agreed to her plan, feeling trapped by their desperate situation. Heartbroken and scared, Hansel and Gretel overheard their parents' conversation and decided to come up with a plan of their own. Hansel, being the clever one, gathered pebbles from the ground and laid a trail leading back home. The next morning, as their parents led them deep into the forest, Hansel dropped the pebbles along the path without their parents noticing. After a while, their parents left them alone in the forest, believing they would never find their way back. However, thanks to the pebble trail, Hansel and Gretel were able to follow it back home. Days turned into weeks, and the children's stepmother grew angrier by the day. She convinced their father to give it another try, but this time, Hansel had no pebbles to leave a trail with. Instead, he left a trail of breadcrumbs, hoping that it would lead them home. Unfortunately, the hungry birds of the forest ate the breadcrumbs, and once again, Hansel and Gretel found themselves lost. They wandered deeper into the forest until they stumbled upon a magical candy house, covered in delicious candies, chocolates, and gumdrops. Hansel and Gretel couldn't believe their eyes. Starving, they began to eat the candy from the walls of the house. Little did they know that the house belonged to a wicked witch who had set this trap to lure children into her lair. As the children were enjoying their candy feast, the witch appeared and cackled with delight. She locked Hansel in a cage and forced Gretel to work as her servant. The witch had planned to fatten up Hansel and eat him, as she had done with many other children before. Days turned into weeks, and the witch continued to feed Hansel with delicious meals, waiting for him to become plump enough.
